The IC-LPM series is ideal for a range of liquid flow applications:
The IC-LPM is employed by a UK based temperature control specialist in their range of tool heaters and temperature controllers which ensure that temperatures are accurately managed within applications such as injection moulding, extrusion and die casting. The standard temperature IC-LPM with mV output is used in water based heaters up to 90°C whilst the high temperature version is used in oil based heaters from 150 to 350°C.
The IC-LPM with battery-powered resettable flow totaliser is used in mobile aircraft deicing systems to monitor use of deicing fluid and allow billing of individual airlines. The IC-LPM was chosen as a cost effective alternative to a turbine flow meter or insertion paddlewheel meter.
A company that concentrates on fuel storage and handling of diesel and oil is using the standard temperature IC-LPM with a battery powered flow rate indicator for monitoring the flow of diesel to/from storage tanks. The IC-LPM meter was chosen primarily because of the short lead time compared with supply of an equivalent turbine meter.
A leading provider of engineering solutions in machining technology has integrated the standard temperature IC-LPM with mV output into a CNC milling machine to control flow and optimise usage of machine cutting fluid.
Monitoring Flow in Water Chillers. A process cooling company is using the IC-LPM inline paddlewheel meter to monitor flow in their specialist water-based chillers for removing heat from the super conducting magnets in MRI body scanners. Effective cooling and precise temperature control are vital in limiting temperature fluctuations that would adversely affect the scanner’s accuracy, efficiency and stability. Liquid helium is commonly used to cool the magnets with a process water chiller being used to maintain the liquid helium cooling system.
In this critical application, the IC-LPM flow meter ensures that the water chiller flow is maintained at a rate specified by the scanner manufacturer. The IC-LPM with mV output is supplied with an industrial display for mounting into the MRI scanner control panel. The Menkar K70 is a bypass level indicator with visual scale or magnetic flapper display for continuous measurement, display and monitoring of liquids levels in open or closed tanks and vessels. The Triangle flow sensor is an innovative flow detection rate system for accurate measurement of free flow powders, pellets and granular bulk solids, even in pneumatic conveying or free-fall applications. In the nappy industry the Triangle system is being used as a back-up system for the volumetric feeder of super absorbent pellets and regulates a constant flow of the pump. The system is designed to obtain optimum results for products in free fall after mechanical conveying. In this application the flow of pellets is approximately 600 kg/h. The rigid stainless steel sensor includes a ceramic isolator for abrasive materials such as these pellets.
Sodium Hypochlorite Level Measurement in Water Disinfection Systems
UK water companies process and deliver billions of cubic metres of drinking water each day. For disinfection treatment, on-site sodium hypochlorite solution generation is increasingly regarded is a cost-effective, reliable and safe alternative to sourcing chlorine from a chemical distributor; it reduces the need for bulk storage equipment and the risks associated with handling and holding large quantities of chlorine.
At this pumping station the Flowline EchoPod DL14 level sensor is measuring sodium hypochlorite that is generated to disinfect well water that is then distributed to surrounding residents. The EchoPod DL14 is installed on the storage tank, providing continuous level measurement data to the chlorine generation controller. As level falls, chlorine production is increased; as it rises, production is slowed and ultimately stopped when full.
Flow Rate through Fish Tanks in Aquaculture Research
With aquaculture playing an increasingly important role in the provision of global fish supplies, there is a corresponding growth in aquaculture related research to support the industry and optimise its activities. Monitoring Leakage in Landfill Leachate Control Systems
Landfill leachate is a aggressive liquid, typically carrying debris, which needs to be managed, controlled and removed to prevent groundwater pollution. Such applications require a flow meter with no moving parts and minimal maintenance. A UK landfill site has installed 2″ diameter, PTFE-lined Magflux A magnetic flow meters with remote flow transmitters on each secondary discharge pipeline and the cumulative volume of leachate is compared with the total flow through the primary leachate collection line, indicating any leakage.

Operating status indication

Innovative Level Indication, Detection and Switching System for Solids & Liquids, even in Harsh Environments & Difficult Applications
The new Presense LDS300, using innovative field time control technology, is designed for accurate high/low level indication, detection and switching with solids or liquids inside vessels.
The Presense LDS300 is a level detection and switching system for solids and liquid in tanks, hoppers, vessels or containers that is particularly suitable for measuring in harsh, pressurised, abrasive, hot and corrosive environments and with low dielectric materials. It employs innovative ‘Field Time Control’ technology where a concentrated electric field is generated around the sensor; the reaction time of the sensor varies as the material interferes with the electric field and the sensor signal output corresponds to the presence or absence of material at that point. In particular, Field Time Control technology has the ability to detect weak signals coming from low dielectric products allowing high accuracy measurement in such applications compared to other types of level instrumentation.
This new level detection and switching system consists of a level probe, process connection and an enclosure with programmable control display and power interface module. The Presense LDS300 can be supplied with a choice of stainless steel probe types and lengths: standard rod probes for light, low friction materials; adaptive probes where point level detection is located away from the outer wall; and length-adjustable, suspended cable probes for heavier, high friction materials. Physical contact with the product is not always required to trigger the switch, the sensor can also switch on proximity.
With a reliable and robust design for industrial applications and harsh environments, the Presense LDS300 is ideal for severe applications including extreme temperatures from -40 to 200 deg C, pressures up to 25 Bar and materials that are abrasive or corrosive. It is a versatile industrial level switch, suitable for high/low level control across a wide range of material handling, storage and control applications, but especially for industries with extremely low dielectric bulk products (solids and liquids) or rough and electrically polluted environments. Typical applications include storage of food products such as flour, grains, sugar, milk powder and animal feed; aggregates such as gravel, sand and cement; and liquid interface detection such as oil on water.
Overall, the Presense system is easy to install, has no moving parts and requires minimal maintenance, providing a reliable and cost effective solution for high/low level control that reduces unscheduled downtime and maintenance time.
After an initial delay in the launch of the Government’s Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI), this scheme is now open for applications. The RHI provides financial support for non-domestic renewable heat generators to encourage the uptake of renewable heat technologies such as biomass boilers, solar thermal, ground and water source heat pumps.
Within a few days of the RHI launch, Icenta has already received a number of enquiries for heat meters and heat energy calculators which can be used as part of the scheme. The EchoPod DL34 is the latest addition to FlowLine’s series of general purpose, non-contact ultrasonic level sensors, extending the EchoPod measurement range from 3m to 5.5m. Similar to other EchoPod level sensors, the DL34 combines switch, control and measurement capabilities in one package, providing a total solution for level control and automation whilst minimising tank system hardware.
The EchoPod DL34 offers the benefits of ultrasonic level measurement in a small package, with automatic temperature compensation, high accuracy, no moving or exposed parts and low maintenance. Introducing EchoPod, a revolutionary non-contact level solution for small tanks
EchoPod is an integrated control automation solution that provides non-contact level measurement with switch and control. Designed for small tanks, the EchoPod ultrasonic level switch, controller & transmitter replaces floats, pressure and conductance sensors.
EchoPod offers the benefits of ultrasonic level measurement in a small package, with high accuracy, no moving or exposed parts and low maintenance. It reduces tank system hardware by combining switch, control and measurement capabilities simultaneously or individually, depending on the application. Compact design allows for installation where there are limited mounting options and space and a 5 cm dead band allows for maximum fill of media. EchoPod also combines four internal relays, a 4-20mA analog output and pump(s) / valve(s) control in a single sensor.
EchoPod’s design and performance capabilities position it well for small tank applications focused on control or process automation. Additionally, with its non-metallic housing and transducer, EchoPod is well suited for corrosive, dirty or hazardous applications.
